One of the rarest of all Mickey Mantle signed cards is his 1961 Topps #44 subject, presented here in a visually pleasing PSA Authentic holder. One of only 14 total scripted examples on the PSA “Pop” Chart, it represented a fractional 0.35% of the 4,000+ “unsigned” PSA copies! Mantle’s 40 round-trippers paced the Junior Circuit in 1960, besting his teammate Roger Maris by a single homer. However, the 1961 campaign would see Maris turn the tables via his iconic 61 round-trippers that surpassed Babe Ruth’s magical 60 mark. The “M & M” boys would electrify the baseball community that legendary season via there relentless pursuit of “the Babe’s” illustrious record, with Mantle’s September hip injury sadly ending his season at 54 home runs. The ballpoint ink “Mickey Mantle” signature is neatly positioned directly beneath the imposing “1960 HOME RUN LEADERS” caption, extending into the classic Mantle portrait image. Revealing approximate “8” strength, it is joined by the card’s fine VG aesthetics, with a faint vertical wrinkle running through the center of the card and even corner wear the only notable imperfections for this “Commerce Comet” marvel.
